Applications are now open for the 2019 programs of the highly regarded Women in Leadership programs for academic and professional staff.
For more than 10 years, UNSW has been supporting and educating women to achieve leadership positions at UNSW. Almost 300 Alumni have completed the Women in Leadership programs with a further 50 women on track to complete the program this year.
The successful Women in Leadership programs for Academic (AWIL) and Professional (PWIL) staff are continuing in 2019 with applications now open.
The programs are designed for talented academic and professional women who have previous experience in leading people to further their skills and prepare for the next step in their leadership career at UNSW.
Applications are open for submission until 10 September. Interested applicants can also register to attend one of the UNSW Capability & Development team led Information sessions held on 22 and 23 August.
The highly regarded leadership programs align with UNSW’s 2025 Strategy by helping to identify, grow and retain talented women who can lead the University with confidence.
UNSW Capability & Development Learning Strategy Project Lead, Fay Redmond, says “it’s a wonderful opportunity for women to participate in these courses to expand their skills and aspire to leadership positions at UNSW. UNSW’s goal is to improve its female representation at senior levels so that by 2025 we have 40 % female academic leaders at Level D and above, and 50% female professional leaders at Level 10 and above.”
Alongside talent development, the programs will also incorporate our Values in Action that underpin the essence of good leaders and are a significant reflection of the type of culture we aspire to. The programs also create valuable networking opportunities and connections with senior leaders.
Each year, up to 50 aspirational women complete the leadership courses which are now recognised in collaboration with AGSM digital badges by allocating credits to the Certificate of Executive Management and Development. Representing your skills as a badge gives you a way to share your abilities online in a way that is simple, trusted and verified.
This year eligibility is opened to include professional women at Levels 7-10+ and academic women at Levels B, C & D who have two years employment at UNSW.
Successful applicants will be announced on 15 October and program begins on 5 February 2019.
There is no better recommendation other than to hear from two of last year’s leadership program participants; namely
UNSW scientist Dr Belinda Liddell says “The AWIL program gave me the tools to activate and understand my own leadership skills and expanded my leadership opportunities at UNSW and in my research area. Most importantly, the learning, support and mentorship from my AWIL peers was incredibly enriching and has continued beyond the duration of the program.
“PWIL has allowed me to implement changes in my professional and personal life. I now have a greater understanding of my own self, my actions, re-actions, attitude and motivation. I have a whole new set of life skills which have already had an immediate effect on my work-life and relationships”, says Jane Kuper, Governance Officer, Conduct & Integrity Unit
