On Saturday, 1 September our biggest event of the year offers activities and experiences to educate everyone about what UNSW has to offer future students.
If you’ve never been to UNSW Open Day, now is your chance to register and find out what the buzz on campus is all about. Bring your family and friends and explore the many activities happening on the day.
This year’s Open Day event at UNSW Kensington and Paddington Campuses promises to be the best yet. All our Faculties will showcase their diverse range of educational offerings.
UNSW Open Day highlights include:
- Luminocity 2018: A must-see exhibition for anyone passionate about designing and building cities of the future. Try the hands-on activities such as laser cutting, 3D printing and 3D sculpture creation.
- Getting hands-on with art and design: Explore our innovative Art & Design studios at the UNSW Paddington campus and ask current students and staff about their inspiring work.
- Hear from an astronomy and space expert: For those interested in the varied career opportunities a science degree offers, students can hear from Professor Lisa Harvey-Smith, the award-winning astrophysicist with a talent for making the secrets of the universe accessible to all. Discover how she built a successful career as an astrophysicist, author, speaker and TV presenter. The Science Career Paths lecture is at 10:10am.
In addition, future students and their families can try out any of the following activities:
- Fly a plane in a purpose-built flight simulator and try on virtual reality goggles at the Aviation marquee.
- Start ‘thinking globally’ at the Arts & Social Sciences precinct where there will be a life-size snow globe.
- Find out opportunities for students to launch their career and pick up duty free merchandise at the Business School’s Frequent Flyer Club.
- Challenge yourself to make your way across the surface of Engineering’s viscoelastic pool without sinking. The more force applied the more solid the liquid will become, so the key is to never stand still.
- See demonstrations from the UNSW Mechatronics Society’s Sumobots – the miniaturised fighting robots demonstrating how learning about engineering and entrepreneurship can go beyond the lecture halls and into the real world.
- Get some hands-on experience in arm plastering and ask Medicine students about their experience studying at UNSW.
- Check out the bionic eye, a major project within the Graduate School of Biomedical Engineering aiming to improve the vision of people with a degenerative eye disease.
- Get a feel for what it would be like to be a lawyer at one of UNSW Law’s mooting demonstrations from 12:10pm to 2:40pm.
There is so much to explore. With nearly 40,000 people expected to attend, start planning your day now. Download the app to create your very own plan, navigate the campus and make the most of your Open Day. Day.
