Help the UNSW Business School support women in our community.
The Equity, Diversity & Inclusion (EDI) team is partnering with Share the Dignity to host an It’s in the Bag packing party on Tuesday 5 December from 12pm – 3pm. Share the Dignity believes no woman or girl should go without basic essentials. They work with women at-risk of or experiencing homelessness, domestic violence and poverty.
The It’s in the Bag appeal encourages everyday Australians to put together bags filled with essential and luxury items to donate to women, girls and those who menstruate living in crisis. The Business School is aiming to pack 100 bags (50 adult, 25 mum and bub, and 25 teen bags).
How you can help
Show your support by donating some much-needed items and/or register to help pack the bags for this worthy charity. Next time you’re in the supermarket, consider picking up some of the items listed below or donate a fully packed bag (indicating if it’s adult, mum and bub, or teen).
What to donate
For adult bags: shampoo, conditioner, roll-on deodorant, toothbrushes, toothpaste, sanitary pads, body wash or soap, and tampons.
For mum and bub bags: maternity pads, breast pads, baby wipes, dummies, newborn nappies, baby shampoo, baby wash, nappy-rash cream and disposable nappy bags.
All items need to be new and sealed. Consider including a handwritten note or card to give your donation a personal touch.
Add some luxury
Include some optional luxury items: makeup, face wipes, stationery, jewellery, books, gift vouchers, undies, masks or sanitiser, tissues, towel, socks, small umbrella and wet wipes. Teens might also like scrunchies, earphones, lip gloss and movie tickets.
Please do not include pharmaceutical items (condoms, throat lozenges, paracetamol etc.), razors/knives or scissors, food or drinks, spray deodorant/shampoo or other aerosols, loose tampons and pads, or unsealed menstrual cups.
Where to take your donations
Drop your donations to the Dean’s Unit of the Business School (Level 6), marked attention to Rhiannon Tout before Tuesday 5 December. Or bring your items to the Business Lounge on the day.
Participating in It’s in the Bag can help women in need receive the love, hope and dignity they deserve this festive season. Hear how receiving a bag impacted Kathy, a domestic violence survivor.
