New resources will help staff implement workplace adjustments and contribute to accessible and inclusive environments.
UNSW has collaborated with the Australian Disability Network to develop a new Workplace Adjustments Procedure to ensure systems are in place that support equitable inclusion for staff with disability, neurodiversity or mental health conditions in the workplace.
Workplace adjustments enable all our staff to:
- work safely
- work productively
- feel included
- be engaged and supported to perform at their best.
Alongside the procedure, a Workplace Adjustments Toolkit for Staff and Managers is now available. The toolkit supports staff at all levels in navigating workplace adjustments conversations, requests, implementation and reviews.
The procedure and toolkit are initiatives launched under UNSW’s 2022–2025 Disability Inclusion Action Plan (DIAP). The plan commits the University to ensuring accessibility for all individuals in built, digital and communicative environments.
Professor Jackie Leach Scully, Director of the Disability Innovation Institute and Executive Sponsor of the DIAP 2022–2025, said: “One in six Australians has a disability, which is around 18 per cent of the population or 4.4 million people. The DIAP is a fundamental part of UNSW’s commitment to ensuring equitable access to every University activity, and aims to enable all students and staff to participate fully in University life.
“It applies to UNSW policy, practice and delivery of services – including these new resources, which will support all staff with helpful and practical guidance.”
