UNSW has set the priorities for collective focus in the Foundational Year of our 10-year Strategy.
In parallel with readying the UNSW Strategy: Progress for All for launch, colleagues throughout the University, with guidance from the University Leadership Team (ULT) and University Planning & Performance (UPP), were hard at work establishing the operational priorities for 2025. The result is a set of 28 initiatives that will give the UNSW community clear, collective focus for the year ahead.
Each of the 28 priorities is aligned with one of the Strategy’s nine Strategic Pillars and its specific objectives. Just like the Strategic Pillars, there are many intersections between the initiatives.
And, just like the Strategic Pillars, every person in every role in every faculty and division has a part to play in achieving their aims. Many of the projects are underway, with scores of colleagues in faculties and divisions already making headway.
In the words of Provost, Professor Vlado Perkovic, “Collective progress needs our collective focus.”
“UNSW is bursting with talent and motivation in a multitude of fields, but we can’t do everything at once. By setting clear operational priorities and targets and being accountable for their success, we can make sure our talents and efforts are applied to the greatest effect in areas where they’re needed most.”
Prof. Perkovic said that collectively, our work towards these initiatives in this, the Foundational Year of the 10-year Strategy, will create the baseline for UNSW’s ultimate goal of Progress for All.
“The focus initiatives for 2025 are creating the robust platform we will build upon for the life of our Strategy. They’re beginning the continuous incremental progress we need to deliver colossal impact over time,” he said.
Alignment with the Strategic Pillars
Of the priorities for 2025, 19 are aligned with the Strategy’s five Impact Pathways:
- Through accessible education, empower current and future generations
- Through research, lead knowledge creation, innovation and translation
- Convene across sectors and build networks locally and globally
- Create a culture in which all people are united by purpose and can deliver their best work
- Develop inspiring and cutting-edge environments and simple, effective, trust-based systems.
Nine are aligned with the four Impact Focus Areas drawn from the Societal Impact Framework:
- Accelerate the transition to a sustainable society and planet
- Advance economic and social prosperity
- Enable healthy lives
- Strengthen societal resilience, security and cohesion.
Business planning and implementation
The 28 priority initiatives for 2025 form part of the business planning process for the 10 years of UNSW Strategy: Progress for All. They are encapsulated in the 2025 UNSW Operational Plan. Annual UNSW Operational Plans and three Triennium Roadmaps will help ensure collective focus, accountability, course-checking and impact measurement.
Prof. Perkovic’s areas of oversight include UPP, the office that guided development of the 28 initiatives and will oversee their targets and KPIs.
