A new campaign is launching on campus to support UNSW community members affected by gender-based violence.
The campaign, coordinated by the Safer Communities team, aims to increase awareness and understanding of the Gendered Violence (GV) Portal at UNSW.
The GV Portal provides an accessible pathway for UNSW community affected by gender-based violence to seek support. The portal can help you find the right person or service to give you the support and advice you need.
The campaign will run throughout Term 1 2025, launching in O-Week on 10 February 2025, with key messaging appearing across multiple channels on campus.
"We want our UNSW community to know how to get support if they’ve experienced gendered violence. It’s critical to enable an appropriate response and helps create a safer community for us all,” Director of Safety, Kathryn Taylor said.
Project Manager, Semra Tastan said the campaign aims to strengthen the feelings of safety on campus for everyone.
“But it’s specifically for victim-survivors and potential victim-survivors, including young women, gender and sexuality diverse students and students with disability.
“Our campaign messaging is designed with this primary audience in mind, but the message is important for everyone to hear – including fellow students and, of course, staff.”
Sharing the message on campus
The team developed the campaign in response to a key finding in the 2021 Universities Australia National Student Safety Survey (NSSS), which showed that 49.3% of UNSW respondents said they didn’t know where to seek support.
Keep an eye out for posters at in the Roundhouse, in bathrooms across campus, in residential buildings, on social media and in other locations at the Kensington, Paddington and Canberra campuses. They will share the message: 'If you’ve experienced GV, you can get support at the GV Portal.'

The Safer Communities team will also distribute wallet cards, drink coasters, fridge magnets and brochures at the Preparing for Success Fair during O-Week, residential settings and other key locations across campus, including Security, Health Service, Psychology and Wellness, and Arc.
