This online event will draw on youth leaders and experts in youth empowerment to explore climate action and capacity building for higher education students.
Universities play an important role in supporting the next generation of climate and sustainability leaders. Presented by the International Universities Climate Alliance (IUCA), in collaboration with UNSW Sydney, Monash University and UN-Youth Australia, this online dialogue will consider global youth perspectives on climate education and explore roadblocks and opportunities for integrating youth perspectives into decision-making.
Participants will consider how universities can develop the skills needed for current and future leadership on campus and within the local community, as well as in government, research, corporations, startups, non-profits and the United Nations.
Drawing on experts and leaders in youth empowerment from within universities, as well as youth representatives from organisations such as UN Youth and students in universities around the world, this dialogue will create a space to exchange information and goals ahead of COP29 in Azerbaijan. It will bring together representatives from across multiple nations.
Some questions that may be explored during the dialogue:
- What skills are currently under-developed and how do we prepare students for the green jobs of the future?
- What do students want from climate education?
- What are the existing and new opportunities for universities to partner with youth organisations and forums to contribute to youth climate empowerment goals?
- What role do universities play in integrating diverse student voices in decision-making across industry and government?
- How do the outcomes of high-level international negotiations filter down into tangible impact for students?
