Help shape diversity and inclusion initiatives at our University.
UNSW is currently participating in Diversity Council Australia’s (DCA) Inclusive Employer Index. This anonymous staff survey is now open and will take 5-10 minutes to complete. It will help us better understand and measure diversity and inclusion at UNSW.
UNSW will use the Inclusive Employer Index to measure and track our progress in creating a diverse and inclusive organisation. The questions cover:
- Staff experience of workplace inclusion and exclusion: including inclusion within an immediate team, with managers, and within the inclusive organisational climate, as well as inclusive behaviours, exclusionary behaviours, and employee awareness and support of inclusion initiatives across UNSW.
- Diversity demographics: including Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander background, age, caring responsibilities, country of birth, cultural background, disability status, gender identity, multilingual ability, religious affiliation and sexual orientation.
- Impact of inclusion: across team effectiveness, innovation, customer service, discretionary effort, job satisfaction and turnover intentions.
The survey is run by DCA, using Cultural Infusion’s Diversity Atlas platform. It takes around 13 minutes to complete.
To be eligible to be considered a DCA Inclusive Employer, we need a minimum of 1600 responses. So we need your participation to help us reach this goal.
The survey results
UNSW’s 2023 results were compared against a nationally representative sample of 3000 Australian workers (the National Index benchmark) and 25,349 employees from 89 DCA members (the DCA Member Index benchmark).
These results informed the development of UNSW’s first Gender Equity Strategy. The 2024 survey results will be used to progress inclusion initiatives across the University, including training and mentoring programs, as well as funding and grant schemes.
When the survey closes, results will be aggregated and detailed reporting will be shared with relevant stakeholders across the University.
These reports will identify and address any areas of concern and inform future program design and strategy development. High-level results will be shared with staff in the months after the survey closes.
Data will be reported back to UNSW at an institutional level only. This information will not be collected or identifiable at a faculty or divisional level. There will be a minimum reporting threshold, meaning that results will only be reported if more than 10 people respond.
Your confidentiality
Your responses to this survey are voluntary and entirely confidential, and your individual responses can’t be tracked.
No other participating organisations will receive information about how UNSW performed and any comparison data provided will be fully aggregated and deidentified. Cultural Infusion and DCA will not have access to UNSW staff contact details at any point in this process.
