UNSW’s Gender Equality Hub – a powerhouse of ideas and action – is set to transform the conversation on legal, political and economic equality for cis and trans women, as well as gender-diverse individuals.
Bringing together leading researchers, policy experts and advocates, the UNSW Gender Equality Hub will push for real-world impact through cutting-edge research and strategic policy engagement. The initiative launches with an event on Monday 10 March at the Michael Crouch Innovation Centre (MCIC), reinforcing UNSW’s commitment to gender equity and inclusion in the week following International Women's Day. It aligns with the University’s new Progress for All Strategy to drive real-world impact through research, policy and community engagement
A bold, collaborative vision
Co-led by globally renowned academics – Professor Rosalind Dixon (UNSW Law & Justice) and Professor Pauline Grosjean (UNSW Business School) – the Hub is a dynamic initiative designed to critically assess and address gender inequality in Australia and globally. With expertise spanning constitutional law, socioeconomic rights and gendered economic structures, Profs Dixon and Grosjean will drive an ambitious agenda aimed at advancing gender equity through evidence-based reforms.
“The Gender Equality Hub is about transforming research into action,” said Prof. Dixon. “By bringing together legal, economic and policy expertise, we aim to challenge outdated structures and drive systemic change that leads to real progress.”
Driving change through research and policy
The Gender Equality Hub will tackle the structural barriers that reinforce gender inequality, focusing on workplace culture, pay equity, childcare, and legal and political representation. It will also explore the multi-directional relationship between economic, political, social and legal equality, ensuring research translates into tangible outcomes.
At its core, the initiative will:
- advance legal and political gender equality through training, mentorship and policy reform
- investigate economic disparities, from workplace culture to childcare and pay equity
- use innovative statistical and qualitative research methods to assess the real-world impact of gender-related policies.
Committed to an intersectional approach, the hub will examine how overlapping forms of discrimination – such as race, socioeconomic status and disability – intersect with gender to shape lived experiences.
The launch event
The 10 March launch event will mark the beginning of this bold initiative, offering attendees the opportunity to engage with the hub’s directors, hear about its research agenda, and contribute to the movement for gender equality.
