From activists to astronauts, more women are added to Celebrating UNSW Women on Campus’s Women’s Trail.
This University-wide project was launched in 2023 to address gender inequity by increasing visibility of women in our physical and digital spaces.
“UNSW Sydney is one of Australia's leading research and teaching universities, with a rich history of iconic women blazing a trail for future generations. So it is only right that, as part of International Women’s Day, we continue to Celebrate UNSW Women on Campus,” Alison Avery, Executive Director Partnerships & Engagement said.
“This year we are excited to add 11 women to the Women’s Trail, each with their own unique story and achievements.
“Some, like Chanel Contos, are household names to many given her work to successfully advocate to mandate consent education in Australian schools. Others are fiercely impressive in their respective fields and communities.
“All the women featured are proud UNSW alumnae and have been selected as inspiration to future generations at UNSW.”
To date, the project has renamed 17 buildings and spaces after alumnae and former staff who identify as women.
Explore the Women’s Trail online via the website, plinths or QR codes around campus. Engage with the Trail to learn more about the first women graduates of each faculty, the first woman professor, the first woman Deputy Chancellor, the first Indigenous woman graduate, and many more trailblazing alumnae and staff including athletes, artists and community leaders.
