Students participate in annual hackathon through uDASH and Chubb Australia partnership.
In partnership with the UNSW Data Science Hub (uDASH), insurance provider Chubb Australia recently concluded its most successful, annual hackathon yet.
UNSW’s Science Faculty is home to uDASH, which was formed to bring together data specialists from across the University. Its aim is to help address complex, real-world challenges faced by business, industry and government. The group translates large volumes of data into knowledge that supports decision-making.
This year's hackathon had the highest number of registrations to date, with 15 talented UNSW students participating. The students, representing diverse academic backgrounds in data science, actuarial studies, economics, statistics, computer science and finance, tackled real-world insurance data challenges. This hands-on experience provided them with invaluable insights into the insurance industry and the power of data analysis in solving complex problems.
“What a fantastic opportunity for our students to engage with industry to solve real-world problems. We were thrilled by the vast number of applications we received this year. Well done to everyone involved,” said Professor Scott Sisson, Centre Director of the Data Science Hub.
Congratulations to the winning team of Anya S, Fatemeh G and Aasiya S. Their innovative solution impressed the judges and showcased the immense potential of the next generation of data experts.
Chubb and uDASH were thrilled with the success of the hackathon and are already looking forward to even greater participation and groundbreaking ideas at next year's event.
