The Policy Transformation Program is simplifying and consolidating UNSW’s policies.

UNSW has published and implemented our new Risk and Compliance Policy, which became effective from 1 June 2024.

This policy has been a collaborative effort, with engagement and input from across the University through key stakeholder groups, the University Leadership Team (ULT) and staff consultation. It’s a significant milestone in the ongoing Policy Transformation Program (PTP).

The Division of Transformation, Planning & Assurance has been leading the PTP to consolidate and simplify the existing policy suite of more than 260 policy documents into one code and 23 policies.

The intention is to reduce the number of policies and cut down on red tape, and to adopt a trust-based approach to decision-making. The program also applies plain language for easier understanding and an accessible format for staff and students.

The Risk and Compliance Policy outlines the framework for managing risk, ensuring legislative compliance and overseeing third-party arrangements. These enhancements will strengthen UNSW's governance and operational integrity. It’s applicable to all staff, affiliates and controlled entities of UNSW, encompassing all activities undertaken by or on behalf of the University.

Aligning with the PTP's objectives, the policy consolidates 11 documents into a streamlined set of one policy and three instructional manuals consisting of:

  1. Risk Management Manual
  2. Compliance Management Instructions
  3. Third-Party Arrangements Manual.

Find these documents on the UNSW Policy Hub.
