US maintains top positions

Universities from the US continued to hold the top positions, with first place in 29 subjects. Harvard University is the best-performing institution, earning 14 in first place. MIT takes first place in four subjects and Tsinghua University in China leads in three.

GRAS 2024 uses a range of objective academic indicators and third-party data to measure the performance of world universities in relevant subjects, covering five major evaluation categories. A new category, World-Class Faculty, has been introduced to reflect the concentration of top tier scholars. It includes four new indicators: International Academic Award Laureates (Laureate), Highly Cited Researchers (HCR), Chief Editors of International Academic Journals (Editor) and International Academic Organization Leadership (Leadership). As well as the new category, GRAS 2024 retains traditional indicators across categories like World-Class Output (combination of existing indicators for Top Journal Papers and Academic Awards), High Quality Research, Research Impact and International Collaboration.
