Changes to all-staff mandatory training are coming today, Wednesday 13 November 2024.
UNSW is committed to creating an environment where all our people can feel safe, secure and able to do their best work. This is why we provide training modules covering essential topics, such as conduct and values, physical and psychosocial health and safety, data and information security, and gendered violence.
By completing your all-staff mandatory training, you are doing your part to support a safe and inclusive UNSW community for all.
Reducing the number of training modules
We recognise that everyone is busy, and that our mandatory training suite for all staff was time-intensive. To address this, we’ve been working hard to streamline and improve the all-staff mandatory training experience.
We’re reducing the current nine mandatory training modules down to three more practical and engaging modules: Working@UNSW, Safety@UNSW and Security@UNSW. They will contain new and refreshed content so that you have access to the most relevant and important information. This will also reduce your training to under two hours, giving you back valuable time.
Please watch this short video from our Chief People Officer, Gemma Martin, regarding these changes:
What does this mean for you?
All continuing, fixed-term and casual staff will need to complete the Working@UNSW module.
If you're not up-to-date with your safety training, you will also need to complete the Safety@UNSW module. You would have already received an email notifying you of your enrolment. If you’re unsure whether you need to complete the Safety@UNSW module, please check your enrolment status via the ‘Training Summary’ in the Learning and Development tab of your myUNSW. If you are showing as ‘Enrolled’, then you will need to complete the module. If you are showing as ‘Competent’, then you don’t need to complete the module, but the information is available for you to access via Moodle whenever you need.
The Security@UNSW module will be launched in March 2025. Then, from March 2026 onwards there will be a short, refresher module to keep you up to date.
If you are a manager or have other compliance obligations (e.g. lab safety), you will still need to complete additional relevant compliance training. Find out more.
When is the deadline for completing this training?
You should complete this training within the first 14 days of enrolment. We understand that this is a particularly busy time for many, so if you are unable to complete the training within this timeframe, we encourage you to please speak with your manager.
How can you complete your training?
You will be automatically enrolled in this training.
From Wednesday 13 November, you can access it via Moodle. It should be visible within the ‘Course Overview’ tab of your Moodle dashboard.
How do you claim payment for the time completing this training?
If you are a casual employee, you should claim the time it takes you to complete the training via your timesheet under the role in which you work the most hours.
Casual academic staff should select the applicable ‘Other Duties’ pay rate code for ‘Training – attendance or completion of training’ when claiming time for mandatory training. For more information on pay rates/codes, please see the Casual Academic Pay Rates on the HR Hub.
