As winter approaches, we encourage students and staff to have a flu vaccination.
Flu vaccines are available now at the UNSW Health Service and are free for all UNSW students and staff.
Flu is a highly contagious respiratory illness which can occur throughout the year but is more common in autumn and winter. NSW Health recommends a flu vaccination for everyone aged six months and over.
Symptoms of flu include fever and chills, a cough and sore throat, and muscle aches and pains. If you have any flu symptoms, or have been diagnosed with flu, please stay at home and avoid contact with others until your symptoms have gone.

UNSW Health Service nurse Alannah Cahill has been involved in the flu vaccine drive for many years.
“Every year our staff and students show their commitment to a healthier community by coming back to get vaccinated – a small action that makes a big difference,” Alannah said.

Get your COVID-19 booster
Booster vaccinations for COVID-19 are also available. Find more information about COVID-19 vaccine boosters at UNSW Health. The UNSW Health Service currently has Pfizer JN.1 COVID-19 vaccine in stock.
While both the flu and COVID-19 vaccines can be given at the same time, due to the scale of UNSW’s flu clinics, you will need to book a separate appointment for each of the vaccinations.

Practise safe behaviours
Many of the COVID-safe behaviours we have been practising for the past years are also effective in stopping the spread of flu:
Stay at home if you have any symptoms and avoid close contact with others.
Sneeze into your elbow or cover your face with a tissue when you cough or sneeze.
Clean your hands by washing them often and thoroughly.
Wear a face mask in crowded spaces, especially on public transport.
