Student Experience Survey

Encourage your students to complete the Student Experience Survey.

The 2024 national QILT Student Experience Survey (SES) will be open from Thursday 12 September through to Sunday 13 October for undergraduate and postgraduate coursework students.

The survey includes a comprehensive set of attitudinal questions covering teaching quality, skill development, learner engagement, learning resources, support services and the overall structure of their degree or program.

Conducted by the Social Research Centre (SRC) on behalf of the federal Department of Education, the QILT SES is an opportunity for students to have their say. It guides crucial decisions at UNSW across programs and services within the faculties and at the University level.

High-level outcomes are publicly accessible on the ComparED website, and national ratings are featured in The Good Universities Guide, Australia’s largest course comparison resource on higher education. These key outcomes also contribute to the AFR Best Universities Ranking.

“While the SES is conducted on behalf of the government and provides a snapshot of the student experience across all HE institutions in Australia, we analyse our UNSW student data carefully and use it to inform our decisions,” says Professor Sarah Maddison, Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Education & Student Experience.

“The more students completing the SES, the richer and more diverse the dataset becomes, ultimately helping us make more informed, impactful improvements to the student experience as a university.”

Please encourage your students to participate

Colleagues who work with students can help UNSW by encouraging students to complete the survey.

“Support from you, our staff, during the Student Experience Survey is invaluable and it boosts student participation. Encouraging as many students as possible to share their experiences helps to ensure that the results published by the SRC accurately reflect our entire cohort,” says Professor Merlin Crossley, Deputy Vice-Chancellor Academic Quality.

You can encourage participation in this important research by using the range of resources available on the Teaching Gateway.

Among these resources, you’ll find a short, fun video to play in class or to send to students, class slides, a staff email signature, a TV screen for your space and a dedicated student web page where students can find out more about the SES.

All students who complete the survey will go in the draw to win weekly prizes from SRC, including 4 x $1000 e-gift cards and 4 x $250 e-gift cards*. The earlier they complete the survey, the more chances they have to win!

How will students receive the survey?

Students will receive an email from SRC with a direct link to the survey, or they can find the link to the survey via their courses in Moodle.

The QILT Student Experience Survey is open from 12 September until midnight on Sunday 13 October 2024.
