The survey was an opportunity to check in with you on your experience of working at UNSW and how we are progressing with our 2023 Insight survey actions.

Thank you to the 4558 of you who took the time to share your feedback in the recent Insight Pulse survey.

The survey was open for three weeks and closed on Wednesday 30 October. We reached 30% participation and heard from staff across all faculties and divisions. Your responses provided valuable insights into key areas where you feel we are doing well and where we could do better.

The UNSW overall engagement score was 71%. This was evident through higher scores for indicators such as pride and enthusiasm to advocate for UNSW. We also saw this in what you said are our top strengths:

  • our pride and enthusiasm to advocate for UNSW – 86% of you agreed you are proud to work for UNSW and 84% of you agreed you would recommend UNSW as a great place to work
  • safety and inclusion – 79% of you agreed your manager/supervisor shows their commitment to health and safety by leading by example.

We have also seen positive change in leadership and innovation, the two UNSW focus areas where we have been striving for change based on your feedback from Insight 2023. You told us we have seen an improvement of 6% (leadership) and 8% (innovation).

Feedback told us our biggest opportunities to improve are:

  • Taking action based on your feedback: We asked a new question to understand whether you have seen improvements as a result of the last survey. Only 41% believed that positive action has been taking place following the 2023 Insight surveys, with 48% unsure or neutral.
  • How we recognise and value staff, with 59% of you agreeing that people receive appropriate recognition for good work.
  • Ensuring that all staff feel safe and supported in raising concerns, with only 69% of you agreeing.
  • Ensuring workloads are reasonable for roles, with only 64% agreeing.

We want to again reassure you that we are genuinely committed to responding to your feedback and for all our staff to see meaningful changes as a result.

You can expect to hear more about your local faculty and division results over the coming weeks. If you would like more information, please visit unsw.to/insightsurvey.
