More than 600 attendees heard from revered and respected UNSW and industry experts.

The UNSW IT Cyber Security team welcomed more than 600 attendees to hear from Australia’s most eminent experts in cyber security, artificial intelligence and privacy at the Cyber Security Summit on Tuesday 28 May 2024.

“It was our pleasure to host such an enthusiastic group, and we sincerely hope everyone found the sessions informative, and left the event with plenty of insights,” said Derek Winter, Director Cyber Security and Chief Information and Security Officer.

“I strongly feel that the Summit will have an enduring benefit for the University and creates a heightened awareness of services available to keep UNSW cyber safe.”

A full agenda

The event marked one of the most significant moments for Cyber Security at UNSW. The agenda covered nine presentations, five panel discussions, two hands-on hacking and code-bashing tournaments, and activities with a chance to win one of more than 30 prizes simply by participating.

Prominent UNSW and industry-based speakers, including The Hon. Victor Dominello, Professor Toby Walsh, Professor Richard Buckland, Associate Professor Yenni Tim and Professor Nigel Phair provided valuable insights as panel members and moderators. There was something for everyone with topics covering ‘Anticipating and responding to activity’ by threat actors, ‘The role of both government and industry in cyber policy making’, ‘The interaction between AI and innovation with data and cyber governance’, and ‘How to kick-start a career in cyber’.

“I left inspired and able to make better sense of the cybersecurity landscape, and feeling much more empowered to work on those steps we need to protect our information. I’m looking forward to sharing much of what I learned with teams in ADA,” said Catherine Rowe, Deputy Faculty Executive Director in UNSW Arts, Design & Architecture.
