The Schneider Electric Awards recognise organisations for outstanding performance in decarbonising their operations.
Launched in 2022, this year’s entrants were assessed on their integrated approach to sustainability. All submissions were scored across three main areas, to create a future through actions to strategise, digitise and decarbonise.
From a pool of more than 400 entries, UNSW and Estate Management’s efforts and approach to decarbonisation has been globally recognised by winning the ‘Impact to my enterprise’ category. UNSW joins a select group of six organisations worldwide recognised in this category, and is the sole Australian representative.
“This award is recognition of UNSW’s consistent approach to carbon reduction, and the hard work of a dedicated group of people in Estate Management to meet our emission reduction targets,” says Adam De Paoli, Senior Manager Engineering Technology.
“These teams work tirelessly to digitise, electrify and decarbonise in support of UNSW’s Net Zero goal, and it’s satisfying to know when measured against more than 4000 industry customers globally, these teams excel.
“More importantly beyond the accolade, with technology partners like Schneider Electric, together we are making a real difference towards a sustainable future. Great work and congratulations to all involved.”
Contributing to this win was UNSW’s ambitious Environmental Sustainability Plan which aims to reduce our environmental footprint and position our campuses and practices as leaders in sustainability. Our innovative solar Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) has enabled UNSW to achieve 100% renewable electricity since 2020, saving an estimated 1.25 million tonnes of greenhouse gas emissions over the 15-year PPA term.
The current rollout of our electrification program and the digitisation of systems that help with energy and waste reduction were also recognised. While most of the industry has a focus on sustainability, UNSW has a long-running and consistent approach across all of its portfolio and continues to improve sustainable strategies and actions.
